I am very honored and excited to be your chamber president for 2014. I have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds, if not thousands of members of the business community since I opened FASTSIGNS in 2006. We have gone through the lows of the lows together, from a great recession that seemed to have no end, to a storm that rocked us to our core, and yet I am continually inspired by the determination and perseverance of our community.
For the first time in a long time, the outlook seems bright. The economy is growing, unemployment continues to shrink, small business is hiring again, and despite a rocky January the stock market is hovering near all time highs. Most signs are pointing up for 2014. What does this mean for OUR chamber?
We need to seize the opportunity to grow our membership like never before. We will continue to give small businesses reasons to join, through great referrals, networking and educational opportunities. We have to continue to seek out ways to raise money so that we can expand these opportunities, and we need to continue to play our supportive role to the Chamber of Commerce Educational Foundation, which I am optimistic will give out $25K in scholarships to local students later this year! If you are a business owner, and have the means, I urge you to donate a scholarship to this cause. In my opinion, it is one of the most impactful contributions you can make to an individual, and the community.
One of my primary messages for the year is to Get Involved. Get involved in the chamber. Get involved in the community. Being involved in your community is so important to quality of life here. We have more than 30 non-profits whom we are proud to call chamber members. Pick one and get involved. When you get involved, you meet new people, make new contacts, you feel good, and your business benefits…maybe not overnight, but over time.
I am very much looking forward to our year ahead, and feel strongly that our chamber, through our strong membership and dedicated board of directors, will have our most successful year yet! I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
New For 2014:
Member- To- Member
We're excited to announce the launch of a new program this year that's exclusive for
our members! The program will advertise your business to fellow members to get them
in your door AND will save you
$$ when patronizing fellow members a definite win-win!
The details are simple...
Send us an email outlining what you would like to offer (examples: a specific
percentage discount such as 10% off all services, a discounted flat fee for a specific
service, buy one get one free/half off, etc.). The offer has to have a real special value
for the members in other words, if you offer everyone a free evaluation of some kind, it
isn't exclusive for our members. We understand that some of our members will be
unable to offer a discount because of the nature of their business.
But all of our members will be able to take advantage of the discounts offered.
Your questions answered...
Can I change what I offer?
Yes you can, but for the sanity of our web developer, we'd prefer that the offer
be for a full year. For greater flexibility you can offer something like..."10% off
all services, ask about even greater seasonal discounts."
Sounds good, but how can I verify that someone is a member?
They'll have a membership card (see sample below). Membership cards
have been mailed to all members who are current in their dues.
All our members are listed alphabetically on our website.
I'd like to shop with fellow members, but how will I know what the offers are?
All offers will be listed on our website under the heading Member To Member Savings.
